Govt, allies now eyeing 27th amendment to constitution
Prime Minister and PPP chairman meet and agree to remove issues regarding provincial autonomy through another amendment. PM's aide says there is no hurry and neither any understanding developed.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto met here on Sunday and discussed a number of issues following the 26th amendment to the constitution.
According to Geo TV, the two sides in principle agreed to bring 27th amendment that will mainly related to autonomy of provinces. They said that the credit to pass the 26th amendment with two third majority from parliament went to all political parties.
They said that there were some impediments in ensuring rights of the provinces and therefore an amendment would be made to the constitution to remove the hurdles in that regard.
The prime minister said PPP is an important coalition partner and had always supported the government’s economic policies aimed at bringing prosperity to the country.
The PPP delegation praised the government’s economic policies. The delegation expressed full confidence in the government’s policies and actions.
However, Rana Sanaullah, who is the adviser to the prime minister on political affairs, later told the same TV channel that he was present in the meeting between the prime minister and the PPP chairman and they never discussed the 27th amendment.
He said the 27th amendment would be consensus document among all political parties but at present it was not being discussed.
