Govt closes motorways for ‘repair’ ahead of PTI protest

All hostels, guest houses and catering services in Islamabad also shut down, students living in hostels told to go to their hometowns.

ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday evening announced its decision to close five motorways on the pretext of repairing them while the PTI is set to hold a march on Islamabad and protests across the country on November 24 (Sunday).

A spokesman for the National Highways and Motorway police said that the motorways were being closed for repair work. He said that Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M1) and Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M2) were closed at 8pm on Friday for repair work.

The spokesman added that M3 (from Lahore to Abdul Hakim) and other motorways were also closed for repair.

Meanwhile, all hostels, guest houses and catering services in Islamabad were also closed on Friday and students living in hostels were told to go to their hometowns. Catering services were also closed and warned against providing food or tents to the leaders and supporters of the PTI. The metro service in Islamabad has also been suspended.
