Govt forms committee to close Utility Stores Corporation

Committee to determine arrangements for protection, maintenance of corporation's property and assets.

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has constituted a committee with the task of reviewing all matters related to the winding down of the Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan and submit a report to the cabinet.

The formation of the committee is part of the government’s preparations to shut down the operations of the Utility Stores Corporation and its outlets across the country and take the assets and property into its custody.

According to sources,  the federal minister for industries and production will head of the seven-member committee. The Minister of State for Finance and the Minister of State will be members of the committee.

Apart from this, the Secretary Finance and the Secretary Industries and Production are among the members. The committee members also include the Secretary Privatization and the Secretary Benazir Income Support Program.

The federal cabinet has also fixed the terms of reference for the committee, which will determine the procedure for the immediate closure of the Utility Stores Corporation’s operations.

The committee will determine arrangements for the protection, maintenance of the corporation’s property, assets, and will also review the arrangements for adding the corporation’s employees to the surplus pool.

In addition, the integration of employees into the posts of other government institutions will also be reviewed.

A coordination strategy will be also be made with BISP for the delivery of the Ramazan package. The Ministry of Industries and Production will provide sectoral support for the committee, the committee will submit its report to the federal cabinet within seven days.
