PESHAWAR: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has stated that the decision regarding Pakistan’s participation in any Gaza peacekeeping mission will be made exclusively by the government and parliament.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif emphasized that Pakistan is a sovereign nation, fully capable of making independent policy decisions and prepared to defend its borders and people.
He clarified that matters such as the imposition of Governor’s Rule fall strictly within the government’s jurisdiction, stressing that the military does not wish to engage in political affairs and should remain distant from politics.
Speaking on regional security, the DG ISPR said that Afghanistan’s conditions hold no relevance for Pakistan, as the elimination of terrorism remains the top national priority. “There will never be any talks with terrorists,” he asserted, adding that Pakistan’s response to Afghan provocations has been immediate and effective, producing the results “we intended.”
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif also revealed that drug smugglers have infiltrated Afghan politics, and that large quantities of narcotics are being smuggled into Pakistan from across the border.
He further informed that intelligence-based operations (IBOs) are continuing successfully in Tirah and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the elimination of 1,667 terrorists linked to extremist factions.
However, he noted that criminal, political, and terrorist groups continue to pose challenges to law enforcement and anti-smuggling efforts across the country.
