KARACHI: The Sindh High Court was on Thursday morning informed that the provincial government had decided to pay compensation to the families of 18 missing persons.
The government decided on payment of compensation to the families after failing to trace them.
When the court took up hearing of the case, a lawyer representing the government stated that after efforts made by the joint investigation team and a task force did not bear fruit, it has been decided to pay compensation to the families.
He said a summary in this regard had been sent to the cabinet and after its approval the compensation would be paid to the families.
In reply to a question from the court, the lawyer said that the JIT had held its last meeting in March 2022.
The court said that the police were unable to make any breakthrough to trace citizens who go missing. It said people have gone missing and there has been no progress to trace them even after 10 and 15 years.
The court directed the investigating officers to use modern devices to trace missing persons and put off further hearing ofvthe case till January 10.
