ISLAMABAD: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting solar energy while ensuring fairness for consumers who do not use solar power.
In a statement, the minister said the government is steadily expanding the use of renewable energy, particularly solar, as part of its broader strategy to reduce reliance on expensive fuel imports and ease pressure on the national grid.
He emphasized that while encouraging solar adoption, authorities are also mindful of protecting non-solar consumers from any additional financial burden.
Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari noted that policy measures are being designed to maintain a balanced system where all categories of consumers are treated fairly.
He added that sustainable energy development remains a key priority for the government in addressing long-term power challenges.
The minister further highlighted that alongside renewable energy initiatives, the government is actively pursuing structural reforms in the power sector.
These include the privatization of state-owned enterprises aimed at improving efficiency, reducing losses, and enhancing service delivery.
He said these combined efforts reflect the government’s broader agenda to modernize the energy sector, ensure affordability, and create a more reliable and sustainable electricity system for the country.
