Govt Releases Rs1.3bn for Flood Relief, Millions Evacuated: NA told

Health minister urges strengthening local governments and building dams amid flood crisis.

ISLAMABAD: The government has released Rs. 1.3 billion to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to support rescue and relief operations in areas affected by the recent floods.

According to the latest figures, 884 people have lost their lives, 1,181 others have been injured, and 2.1 million people have been evacuated from the affected regions. Families of the deceased are set to receive two million rupees each, those who were severely injured will get 500,000 rupees, and other injured individuals will be provided 200,000 rupees.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that all available resources would be mobilized in close cooperation with the provincial governments to assist flood-affected communities.

During the National Assembly discussion, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal emphasized the urgent need to empower and strengthen local government systems, as well as to construct dams to enhance water storage capacity and better manage future disasters.

Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri underscored the importance of providing timely relief to the affected people, while Jamal Shah Kakar and Usman Badini highlighted the pressing need to address the challenges faced by Balochistan, suggesting that a parliamentary committee should be formed to oversee and resolve these issues.

State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhary condemned a recent terror attack on a political rally in Quetta, stressing the importance of strict implementation of the National Action Plan in coordination with the provinces to eliminate terrorism.

The National Assembly also passed a resolution strongly condemning the attack on the Balochistan National Party rally and called on the provincial government to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The National Assembly session has now been prorogued.
