Gul Plaza Tragedy: 30 Bodies Recovered from Mezzanine Floor

KARACHI: During rescue operations at the fire-ravaged Gul Plaza, authorities have recovered approximately 30 bodies from a shop on the mezzanine (M9) floor, raising the confirmed death toll to 63.

The additional bodies were discovered in the Dubai Crockery shop. Police confirmed that the bodies were in a severely burnt condition. Recovery operations are continuing across different parts of the plaza, with teams carefully searching through the rubble.

Authorities have restricted the use of mobile phones at the site to prevent leaks of images or videos.

According to the Deputy Commissioner South, shopkeepers have been assisting rescue teams in the operation. The remains are being transported to Civil Hospital for detailed forensic examination.

Police surgeons are assessing the remains to determine whether they are from previously recovered bodies or newly discovered victims.
