LAHORE: Record-breaking rainfall in Chakwal has led to a flood emergency being declared in the area. Over 400 millimeters of rain was recorded due to a cloudburst, causing severe flooding in low-lying areas.
Water has entered homes in several neighborhoods, forcing residents to evacuate.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the heaviest rain was recorded in the areas of Lilyandi with 423 millimeters, Wahali Zer with 351 millimeters, and Choa Saidan Shah with 330 millimeters.
In Khewal village near Chakwal, the roof of a house collapsed due to the rain, resulting in the deaths of a man and a child. Two other family members were injured. Rescue teams are working to move people to safer areas. Authorities say the Pakistan Army may be called in if needed.
Across Punjab, heavy rain has caused widespread damage. In cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, and Okara, several roofs and walls collapsed. At least 28 people have died and 90 others have been injured in these incidents. Twelve of the deaths occurred in Lahore, eight in Faisalabad, three in Sheikhupura, and two in Okara.
Emergency services are on high alert, and citizens have been advised to stay indoors. The government has directed local administrations to monitor the situation closely and prepare for further emergencies.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more rain across central and northern Punjab over the next 48 to 72 hours. There is a risk of further flash flooding, especially in low-lying and hilly areas. Citizens are advised to follow weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel.
