HOUSTON: The Pakistani American community in Houston marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with a vibrant celebration at the ACT – Arts, Culture & Taste Pakistan Festival 2025, highlighting national pride, cultural heritage, and community solidarity.

Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, guest of honor at the event, congratulated attendees and praised Pakistan’s resilience and sovereignty. Emphasizing the philosophy of Bunyan-al-Marsoos, he stressed that a strong economy is the foundation of national security and international standing.

The ambassador also highlighted recent economic progress under Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and affirmed the importance of a robust Pak-U.S. partnership, calling the relationship “essential, not optional.”

The festival offered an array of cultural performances and activities. Highlights included a concert by Tahseen Javed, a traditional dress show by the Pakistani Lions Club, and a documentary chronicling Pakistan’s history and development.

Children enjoyed painting sessions, rides, and family entertainment, while visitors sampled Pakistan’s famed mangoes and competed in a lively Q&A contest to win crates of the fruit.

Adding to the excitement, Turkish Airlines held a lucky draw, awarding two attendees round-trip tickets anywhere in the world, complete with a hotel stay in Istanbul.

The event received official recognition when Houston Mayor John Whitmire read a proclamation declaring 14th August as Pakistan Day in Texas. The celebration drew leaders, activists, and community members from across Houston, emphasizing unity and inclusivity.
