GUJRANWALA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a gang involved in trafficking Pakistani citizens to Cambodia, where they were allegedly sold and forced to work in online scamming operations.

According to the Deputy Director of the FIA, the gang consisted of six members, two of whom were based in Cambodia while four operated from Pakistan.

The suspects targeted educated young people with computer skills by posting fake job advertisements on social media, offering employment at call centers in Cambodia.

Officials said that unsuspecting job seekers contacted the agents after seeing the ads and were then trafficked abroad. Once in Cambodia, the victims were allegedly held captive and forced to carry out online fraud activities. Those who refused to comply were subjected to torture and violence.

The FIA revealed that the suspects based in Cambodia charged approximately $2,000 per person for each individual sent there. Authorities estimate that the group has trafficked more than 100 Pakistanis so far.

The FIA has launched further investigations and stated that efforts are underway to dismantle the wider network involved in human trafficking and cybercrime.
