I had left it to God and He vindicated my innocence: Nawaz

Reaction comes after Islamabad High Court acquits former prime minister in Avenfield reference case.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday acquitted former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference case registered against him by NAB.

After the court verdict, Mr Sharif, who was present in the court, remarked that he had left his case to Almighty Allah, and He vindicated his innocence.

He expressed the hope that he would also be acquitted in the Al-Azizia corruption case very soon.

Nawaz Sharif had been convicted in the case on July 6, 2018, and sentenced to 10 years in jail and fined eight million pounds.

Today, after arguments from his lawyers, the court acquitted him.

Moreover, the  National Accountability Bureau has also withdrawn its appeal against the acquittal of the PML-N chief in the Flagship refence case.

Observes say that Nawaz has returned from self-exile in England after over four years under a deal with the establishment.

On the other hand, the noose is being tightened for ousted prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan who is languishing in jail and facing a number of cases.
