LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has instructed journalists to refrain from asking political questions during Pakistan captain Fatima Sana’s pre-match press conference ahead of the much-anticipated Pakistan–India clash in the ICC Women’s World Cup.

The directive follows recent tensions between the two nations during the Asia Cup. In an effort to keep the Women’s World Cup free from controversy, the ICC has tightened its media protocols.

At the start of the press conference, several journalists attempted to raise issues related to the current political situation. ICC media manager Sepwa Qazi immediately intervened, reminding the media that political questions and any inquiries regarding player handshakes would not be allowed. She stressed that the focus must remain solely on cricket.

Once the clarification was made, the press conference proceeded smoothly. Fatima Sana outlined the team’s preparation for the high-stakes match, noting that the squad is fully focused on cricket and that the playing eleven will be announced later.

Addressing Pakistan’s recent defeat to Bangladesh, Fatima said the team is not out of the tournament and is determined to stage a strong comeback.

She added that, in the past, greater interaction between teams off the field created a friendly atmosphere, but the current priority is strictly on-field performance. The players are aware of external developments but remain fully focused on the game.

The young captain, who has already achieved several milestones early in her career, commended the senior players for their support and emphasized the team’s unity and shared commitment to success.
