ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday declared the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law “illegal” and ordered his release.

The directives were issued by IHC’s Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb while hearing a petition challenging Qureshi’s arrest.

It nay be noted that another senior  PTI leader Shireen Mazari, who was also held under the MPO, was released on the direction of the IHC, but later she was taken into custody in another case.

The sessions court yesterday released her but at night the Punjab police picked her again from her residence in Islamabad.
