ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday ordered the shifting of PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan from the district jail of Attock to the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
The direction was issued by IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq while hearing a bail application filed on behalf of Imran Khan in the cipher case.
When the chief justice took up the case, he was informed that Imran could not be produced in court from Attock due to security concerns.
The chief justice remarked that all under-trial and convicted prisoners against whom cases are registered in Islamabad are kept at the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
When he asked why Imran Khan had been kept in Attock jail in the cipher and other cases, officials concerned could not gave a satisfactory answer.
The judge said Imran was shifted to the Attock jail after his sentencing in the Toshakhana case and that sentence has been suspended. Tomorrow you will shift him to Rahim Yar Khan so would the court be hearing the case there?
The judge then ordered that the PTI chief should be shifted from Attock to the Adiala jail and be produced in the IHC in the next hearing of the case. He also sought government reply as to why the former prime minister had been kept in the district jail of Attock.
In reply to a query from Imran’s lawyer, the judge said A, B and C classes in jail have been abolished, but the PTI chief deserved better facilities in accordance with the jail rules.
