NEW DELHI: In a surprising diplomatic blunder, the Israeli army released an image that depicted Indian occupied Kashmir as part of Pakistan, while also mistakenly placing India’s northern states within Nepal’s borders.
The image was part of a graphic released by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), reportedly intended to showcase military achievements or strategic regions.
According to international media reports, the controversial map immediately triggered a backlash, especially among pro-Modi and pro-Israel supporters in India, many of whom took to social media to express their anger and disbelief.
Some Indian users questioned Israel’s reliability as an ally, posting comments such as: “Is this the Israel we’ve been supporting all along?” Others accused the country of undermining India’s territorial integrity.
The controversy gained enough traction that the Israeli army issued an apology, clarifying that the map was a mistake and not intended to reflect any political stance or territorial position.
Despite the apology, the incident has sparked debate over India’s close diplomatic and defense ties with Israel, with critics pointing to the dangers of relying on alliances without mutual respect or understanding of sensitive geopolitical issues.
