RAWALPINDI: Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said India launched a cowardly attack under the cover of darkness, targeting mosques, civilian populations, and critical hydro power infrastructure in Pakistan.
The attack resulted in the martyrdom of 26 innocent civilians, including two children, and left 46 others injured.
According to the military spokesperson, the highest number of casualties occurred in Ahmadpur East with 13 martyrs, while an attack on a mosque in Muridke claimed the lives of 3 individuals. Condemning India’s targeting of places of worship, the spokesperson said this act reflects the narrow-minded Hindutva ideology under Modi’s government, which continues to suppress religious freedom, particularly for Muslims.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif stated that Pakistan responded swiftly and forcefully, shooting down five Indian fighter jets and one combat drone. The downed aircraft included 3 Rafales, 1 MiG-29, 1 Sukhoi, and a combat drone, taken down in the areas of Bathinda, Akhnoor, Awantipora, and Indian-occupied Srinagar.
The DG ISPR also confirmed that Pakistani forces destroyed several Indian military posts, including Chhatri Post, Jura Post, and Shahpur-III, and targeted the brigade headquarters responsible for the ceasefire violations.
He further revealed that India dangerously targeted the Noseri Dam of the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project, which he described as an unacceptable and highly provocative act. He questioned whether India was attempting to harm Pakistan’s water resources, adding that targeting dams violates international law and wartime conventions.
Additionally, at the time of the attack, 57 international flights were present in Pakistani airspace, putting thousands of civilian lives at risk.
The DG ISPR emphasized that Pakistan is responding robustly to this aggression and will continue to do so. Every necessary step will be taken to protect the nation and its people.
