ISLAMABAD: Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that India’s negative attitude and intransigence are the biggest hurdles to the implementation of United Nations resolutions, particularly on the Kashmir issue.

In a statement on Kashmir Solidarity Day, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the United Nations has failed to fulfill its responsibilities regarding the holding of a plebiscite in Kashmir in accordance with its own resolutions. He urged the international community to take serious notice of what he termed India’s “illegal and forcible occupation” of Kashmir.

The JUI-F chief said that February 5 marks a day of struggle against oppression, support for truth, and solidarity with the freedom movement of the Kashmiri people. He emphasized that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs would not go in vain.

Questioning the role of the global body, Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked when the United Nations, established in the name of justice, would take practical steps to ensure justice for the people of Kashmir.

Pakistan observes Kashmir Solidarity Day every year on February 5 to reaffirm support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
