ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan stated earlier that five Indian fighter jets were brought down after attacks, India has now started collecting their wreckage claiming that the jets had crashed.

Reuters reported that three Indian fighter jets crashed in Jammu and Kashmir. This incident occurred shortly after India conducted airstrikes on nine sites identified as Pakistani “terrorist infrastructure” across the border. In response, a Pakistani military spokesperson claimed that Pakistani forces shot down five Indian aircraft, although this statement has not yet been verified by Indian authorities.

The situation escalated following an Islamist militant attack in Indian Kashmir that killed 26 Hindu tourists. In retaliation, India launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting alleged terrorist sites in Pakistan.

Pakistan condemned the strikes as a “blatant act of war” and reported civilian casualties. Pakistan also claimed to have downed five Indian fighter jets, though India has not confirmed these claims. Heavy cross-border shelling ensued, resulting in civilian casualties on both sides.

The conflict has caused widespread disruption, including the closure of schools and air travel disruptions across the region. Several Asian airlines have rerouted or canceled flights to ensure passenger safety. Over two dozen commercial flights were diverted to avoid Pakistani airspace, and 52 flights were canceled by Wednesday morning.

Global leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, have urged restraint. The risk of escalation remains high, with analysts comparing the scale of India’s response to its 2019 air strikes.
