ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, while addressing a press conference, said that India is deliberately creating a threatening situation in the region.
Dar said Pakistan is in contact with the international community regarding this growing threat. He alleged that India is behind various terrorist incidents in Pakistan and several other countries. Instead of pointing fingers at others, India should focus on resolving its internal issues. After the Pahalgam incident, India acted irresponsibly and took reckless steps.
He stated that Indian actions are aggressive in nature. Pakistan is neither involved in the Pahalgam incident nor does it benefit from it. Pakistan has offered to cooperate in a neutral investigation of the Pahalgam incident. Incidents like this in India are often staged for political or strategic reasons. These events frequently occur when important dignitaries are visiting India. India should explain why such incidents happen precisely during these high-profile visits. India immediately blamed Pakistan without any investigation.
Dar emphasized that India cannot unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. The treaty contains no provision for unilateral withdrawal. Pakistan’s National Security Council has made it clear that any attempt to stop water flow will be considered an act of war. India’s moves have destabilized the entire region, and any further Indian actions will receive a strong response. He reiterated that Pakistan will not escalate tensions, but if India initiates any hostile action, Pakistan will respond forcefully.
The Foreign Minister added that India is trying to portray the freedom movement in Occupied Kashmir as terrorism. He affirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces are alert and fully prepared. India levels accusations against Pakistan to achieve specific political aims. Water is a lifeline for Pakistan’s 240 million citizens, and serious thought must be given to why India has taken this aggressive path and what its true objectives are.
Dar also noted that Pahalgam is located 230 kilometers from the Line of Control and has a difficult terrain. It typically takes at least 30 minutes to travel from Pahalgam to the nearest police station. Yet, remarkably, an FIR was registered within just 10 minutes of the incident – raising serious questions about the legitimacy and intent behind the move.
