LAHORE: After India released excess water into the Sutlej River, the water level has risen sharply, creating a flood-like situation in several parts of Punjab.
Following the release, water levels have increased at Head Sulemanki and Head Islam. In Bahawalpur, near Dera Bakha, a protective embankment broke, submerging thousands of acres of standing crops. Rising water levels have also put pressure on the historic Empress Bridge.
In Kasur, floodwaters entered villages near Ganda Singh Wala, severely damaging crops, while precautionary measures have been taken in Pakpattan and Arifwala amid the looming flood threat.
Meanwhile, the Indus River at Taunsa has reached a high flood level, submerging more than 60 settlements. Water has entered low-lying areas of Taunsa, Darahma, and Ghazi Ghat, forcing authorities to instruct residents to evacuate to safer locations.
This sudden rise in river levels has inflicted significant damage on farmlands and rural communities, posing risks to livelihoods and infrastructure.
