ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stated that the ongoing ceasefire between Pakistan and India was requested by India.
He clarified that Pakistan did not initiate any contact and, when approached by the United States, made it clear that it has never sought war.
Dar emphasized that Pakistan is ready for comprehensive talks with India, covering all outstanding issues, including Kashmir, rather than limiting discussions to a single agenda item. He also said that talks at a neutral venue could take place if both sides agree.
The Foreign Minister highlighted that Pakistan has maintained a consistent position of restraint and has always sought peaceful resolutions to disputes.
He criticized India for making “unnecessary statements” while reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue on all issues.
Dar also underlined that any engagement with India will be based on mutual respect and a comprehensive agenda, rejecting the notion of one-sided or symbolic talks. He said that Pakistan will continue to pursue dialogue through appropriate diplomatic channels.
On other diplomatic matters, Dar noted that the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State to Pakistan has not been finalized. He is scheduled for a two-day visit to Bangladesh aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing regional cooperation.
