India seeks handing over of Hafiz Saeed from Pakistan
FO confirms receiving request from New Delhi for extradition of banned outfit's chief in a so-called money launding case.
ISLAMABAD: India has formally asked Pakistan to hand over banned Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed the in connection with the Mumbai attacks of 2008.
The Foreign Office in Islamabad confirmed the development and said that a request has been received from the Indian side for the handing over to Saeed in a so-called money laundering case.
However, FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said India and Pakistan have no agreement on exchange of suspects.
It may be recalled here that the Lahore High Court had last year sentenced Saeed to 30 years in jail in a money laundering case. The cleric has been accused by US and India of orchestrating the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
