Isolated India criticizes Colombia’s support for Pakistan

Aabsence of backing from international community has led New Delhi to feel increasingly isolated on world stage, says Shashi Tharoor.

BOGOTA: India has expressed strong disappointment with the Colombian government over its perceived one-sided support for Pakistan amid the recent spike in tensions between the two South Asian neighbours.

At a press conference held in Bogotá, the head of India’s high-level all-party diplomatic delegation, Shashi Tharoor, stated that while Colombia extended condolences to the victims of Indian airstrikes in Pakistan, it failed to acknowledge the lives lost on Indian soil due to cross-border attacks.

“We deeply regret that Colombia expressed sympathy for Pakistani victims but did not show similar empathy for the innocent civilians killed in India,” Tharoor said, urging a more balanced approach from the international community.

India’s concerns stem from what it sees as a lack of global support during recent hostilities with Pakistan. According to Tharoor, the absence of backing from the international community has led New Delhi to feel increasingly isolated on the world stage.

In response, India has embarked on an ambitious global diplomatic mission. The all-party delegation, which includes representatives from across the Indian political spectrum, is visiting key countries to clarify India’s position and rally support.

“This outreach is essential to ensure that the world understands the threat India faces and the steps we are forced to take in self-defence,” Tharoor explained.

The delegation’s visit to Colombia is part of a broader strategy to re-engage with nations that may have misunderstood or overlooked India’s perspective in recent conflicts.

As regional tensions continue to simmer, New Delhi is determined to reshape international narratives and reaffirm its commitment to peace, while also safeguarding its national security interests.
