ISLAMABAD: India on Friday confirmed that its foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will visit Pakistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s summit to be held in Islamabad from October 15 to 16.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi told a news conference that the external affairs minister will lead a delegation to Pakistan to participate in the SCO summit.
No Indian foreign minister has visited Pakistan for about 10 years as relations between the two countries remained tense, especially after Narendra Modi’s BJP party came to power in India.
Earlier, the Foreign Office in Islamabad had stated that invitations had been sent to the heads of state and government of the member countries of SCO including the Prime Minister of India.
Meanwhile, arrangements have been finalized for the SCO summit that will be held at Convention Center in Islamabad. The venue has been renovated at a cost of millions of rupees.
As part of security for the summit, the government has decided to close the capital for the public for three days. During these days, there will be a public holiday.
