ISLAMABAD: Peace in South Asia is once again under serious threat as India’s unilateral actions on the baseless allegations of terror backing has promoted Islamabad to take retaliatory steps.

Pakistan has imposed strict diplomatic, trade, and airspace restrictions in response to India’s unilateral and provocative actions.

According to the Foreign Office, these Indian moves pose a grave danger not only to regional but also to global peace and stability.

The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that India, using the Pahalgam incident as a pretext, unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, a step Pakistan considers “tantamount to war.” The spokesperson emphasized that the treaty was brokered by the World Bank and any violation of it would constitute a serious breach of international law.

In response, Pakistan has taken several significant measures, including the closure of all movement across the Wagah Border, the suspension of all trade relations with India, and the banning of Indian airlines from Pakistani airspace. Additionally, all visas issued to Indian citizens under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme have been suspended, with Sikh pilgrims being the only exception.

The spokesperson affirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend the nation’s sovereignty, borders, and people against any aggression.

Indian naval, air, and defense advisers stationed in Pakistan have been declared persona non grata and instructed to leave the country by April 30. Moreover, the number of staff at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad is being reduced to 30.

In an emergency meeting held yesterday, the National Security Committee described India’s actions as “water aggression” and approved robust countermeasures. The committee reiterated that Pakistan will not compromise on its sovereignty, national security, or the safety of its citizens.
