ISLAMABAD: Security forces have foiled a major terrorist infiltration attempt from Afghanistan, killing twenty-five militants, including four suicide bombers, along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the incidents occurred on October 24 and 25, when two heavily armed groups of terrorists attempted to illegally cross the border into Pakistan.
Troops responded swiftly and effectively, engaging the militants in North Waziristan’s Spinwam area and Ghaakhi in Kurram District. Both infiltration attempts were decisively thwarted, resulting in the elimination of fifteen terrorists in Spinwam, including four suicide bombers, while another ten were killed in Ghaakhi, Kurram.
During the fierce exchange of fire, five soldiers of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom, displaying exceptional courage and commitment in defending the nation’s frontiers.
The martyred personnel were identified as Havaldar Manzoor Hussain, Sepoy Nauman Ilyas Kayani, Sepoy Muhammad Adeel, Sepoy Shah Jehan, and Sepoy Ali Asghar. Security forces also recovered a significant quantity of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the slain militants.
The ISPR stated that the eliminated terrorists were associated with the India-sponsored network “Fitna al-Khawarij,” which has been attempting to destabilize Pakistan through cross-border attacks orchestrated from Afghan territory.
The military spokesperson noted that these infiltration attempts occurred at a time when Pakistani and Afghan delegations were engaged in bilateral talks in Turkiye, calling the incidents deeply concerning.
The statement added that such repeated infiltration attempts raise serious questions about the intentions of the Afghan interim government regarding its commitments to combat terrorism.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to enhance border management and surveillance, fulfill obligations under the Doha Agreement, and prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorism against Pakistan.
