ISLAMABAD: Inflation in Pakistan has increased with the prices of 17 essential items rising over the past week, according to the latest report by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The weekly inflation report reveals that, on a week-on-week basis, inflation has risen by 0.24%. However, on a year-on-year basis, the inflation rate has decreased to 3.75%.
The report indicates that 17 items saw price hikes, while 14 items became cheaper. Notably, chicken prices increased by Rs. 40.34 per kilogram, and the price of eggs rose by Rs. 10.31 per dozen. Firewood also saw an increase of Rs. 12.35 per maund.
Other price hikes included moong dal (Rs. 1.17 per kilogram), yogurt, fresh milk, mutton, and powdered milk.
On the other hand, the prices of several items decreased. Tomatoes became cheaper by Rs. 9.01 per kilogram, and potatoes saw a price reduction of Rs. 5.08 per kilogram. Sugar also became more affordable by Rs. 7.09 per kilogram.
Additionally, diesel, masoor dal, and LPG cylinders were among the items that experienced price cuts. The prices of bread, wheat flour, and clothing remained stable over the past week.
