International Book Fair Attracts 0.5 Million Visitors
KARACHI: The five-day Karachi International Book Fair, organized by the Pakistan Publishers & Booksellers Association at the Karachi Expo Center, concluded quenching the thirst for knowledge among book lovers.
The fair broke all previous records, with an estimated 500,000 visitors attending over the five days, including students from more than 300 schools, colleges, universities, and religious institutions.
The fair was inaugurated by Syndh’s Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah.
Throughout the event, political, literary, social, and media personalities attended, including Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Ali Khurshidi, MPA Adil Askari, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi leader Muneem Zafar, author Dr. Fatima Hasan, and officials from the National Book Foundation.
The fair featured 329 stalls by local and 17 international publishers and booksellers. On the final day, books were offered at 30–70% discounts.
Vice-Chancellor of Nazeer Hussain University, Professor Dr. Masroor Ahmed Shaikh, visited the fair, emphasizing the importance of promoting Islamic values and traditions among the youth through such initiatives.
He said that the high turnout indicates a bright future for reading in the digital age.
