KARACHI: The stage was set, and the atmosphere was electric as the 18th International Urdu Conference 2025, themed “Jashn-e-Pakistan” officially kicked off at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi.

The annual gathering, known for its grandeur and significance, began with a star-studded opening ceremony, marking the start of a four-day celebration of Urdu language, literature, and culture.

The event attracted a diverse crowd, including literary figures, poets, artists, students, and culture lovers from around the world.

The opening ceremony was attended by Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tesori as the chief guest. President Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah welcomed guests and participants with great warmth.

The ceremony began with the soulful recitation of the Quran, followed by the playing of Pakistan’s national anthem. A special showreel showcasing the significance of the conference was also presented, setting the tone for the upcoming discussions and celebrations.

In a symbolic gesture of unity and patriotism, the opening ceremony also included the cutting of two cakes – one to celebrate the birthday of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, and the other to mark Christmas, emphasizing the spirit of inclusion and cultural harmony.

Governor Tesori, in his address, shared his views on Karachi’s special place in Pakistan’s cultural landscape. “Karachi is often called Mini Pakistan, and the heart of this ‘mini Pakistan’ beats at the Arts Council. The council is the soul of the city, bringing people together from all walks of life,” Tesori said.

He also highlighted the importance of unity in the face of adversity, noting that the Urdu Conference was one of the first initiatives that sought to bring people together through the power of language and culture.
