ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, the government of Iran has agreed to permit 20 additional ships under the Pakistani flag to transit the Strait of Hormuz, with two vessels set to cross daily, announced Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in a post on X.
He termed the move a constructive step toward fostering peace and stability in the region. Diplomats described the decision as a “confidence-building measure” that underscores the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional challenges.
“This positive announcement marks a meaningful step toward peace and will strengthen our collective efforts in that direction,” said Mr Dar, highlighting the potential for enhanced cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes, remains a critical corridor for international maritime trade. Expanded Pakistani shipping access is expected to facilitate trade and deepen bilateral ties.
