SANA’A: The Iran-supported Houthi group in Yemen has announced that it will begin drone and missile attacks against Israel after US and Israel launched attacks on Iran early on Saturday.
Two senior Houthi officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the group’s top leadership has not yet issued a formal statement.
According to one official, the first strike could take place tonight. If it occurs, international shipping in the Red Sea could be affected, as the route is considered vital for global trade. Previous attacks in this area have forced many commercial vessels to alter their routes.
The Houthis had previously halted attacks in the Red Sea under an agreement with the Trump administration, which also led the United States to suspend military operations against the group. Similarly, attacks on Israel were paused following a ceasefire in Gaza last October, bringing relative calm to the region.
