TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has formally approved a ceasefire agreement, announcing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The announcement follows Pakistan’s diplomatic mediation, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s “tireless efforts” in facilitating the truce, noting that Iranian forces will halt military actions provided attacks on Iran cease.
Araghchi confirmed that during the two-week ceasefire, safe passage will be allowed through the Strait of Hormuz. The decision also comes after U.S. President Donald Trump extended the deadline for potential military action against Iran by two weeks in response to Pakistan’s request.
This development marks a significant step toward regional de-escalation and the resumption of safe maritime trade through the strategic waterway.
