TEHRAN/WASHINGTON: Iran has outlined six major conditions for a potential ceasefire with the United States and Israel, even as conflicting claims continue to emerge over ongoing diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington.
According to Iranian media, a senior official speaking on condition of anonymity said Tehran has presented a set of strategic demands in response to proposals conveyed by regional countries and mediators seeking to end the conflict.
The first condition calls for clear and enforceable guarantees that hostilities will not resume. Iran has also demanded the closure of U.S. military bases in the region and compensation for war-related damages.
Additional conditiobslitties include the complete cessation of hostilities across all regional fronts, the establishment of a new legal framework governing the Strait of Hormuz, and legal action against anti-Iran media activities, including the expulsion of individuals involved in such efforts.
Despite these developments, uncertainty continues to surround the talks process.
U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that “positive and productive” talks with Iran have resulted in agreement on multiple points—reportedly around 15, raising hopes for a potential deal. He also announced a five-day delay in planned military strikes on Iranian energy facilities to allow diplomatic efforts to proceed.
However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has firmly denied that any direct negotiations with the United States are currently underway, stating that no talks have taken place in recent weeks. Iranian officials have suggested that messages are being exchanged indirectly through intermediary countries, reflecting a cautious and calculated approach.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has offered to host potential parleys between the two sides, with its Foreign Office reiterating that Islamabad is ready to facilitate dialogue if both parties agree. International media reports suggest that Pakistan may already be playing a behind-the-scenes role in easing tensions through backchannel contacts.
Global markets have reacted sharply to these developments. Oil prices have dropped significantly, while stock markets have shown volatility amid shifting expectations about the conflict and its possible resolution.
Analysts warn that despite signs of diplomatic movement, the situation remains highly fluid, with both sides maintaining firm public positions. The prospects for a ceasefire remain uncertain, as geopolitical tensions continue to shape the course of events in the Middle East.
