RIYADH: A huge fire erupted at Saudi Arabia’s major oil processing facility in Ras Tanura after what regional sources described as a drone strike by Iran, intensifying already high tensions between Iran and its regional rivals.
Videos circulating on social media show flames and thick smoke rising from the site, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global energy markets.
The facility, operated by Saudi Aramco, is considered one of the kingdom’s most significant oil refining and export hubs. While the full extent of the damage remains unclear, energy analysts suggest that even a temporary shutdown could impact supply chains and push oil prices higher.
The attack appears to align with a broader strategic posture attributed to Tehran’s current leadership, which has signaled a more assertive stance toward the United States, Israel, and Gulf allies.
