TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has approved a temporary two-week ceasefire, directing all military units to halt offensive operations.

According to Iranian state media, the ceasefire was agreed following diplomatic efforts led by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

In response, Iran announced the opening of the Strait of Hormuz for safe maritime passage during the ceasefire period.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its “tireless efforts” in facilitating the ceasefire and ensuring the protection of civilians.

He noted that Iran will suspend defensive actions as long as attacks on the country cease, and the negotiations will form the basis of the temporary truce.

The ceasefire follows a two-week extension granted by U.S. President Donald Trump in response to Pakistan’s mediation, reflecting Islamabad’s role in de-escalating regional tensions.
