UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people and the two-state solution during a key debate at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

Speaking at the session on the peaceful settlement of the Question of Palestine, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad emphasized the urgent need for international action to end the decades-long occupation and address the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Ambassador Ahmad praised the momentum generated this year through the High-level International Conference on Palestine, the subsequent New York Declaration, and recent diplomatic efforts including President Trump’s “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict” and the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit.

He highlighted that these initiatives had brought regional and global partners together behind ceasefire implementation, humanitarian access, family reunification, and a political pathway toward Palestinian statehood.

Pakistan supported UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which endorsed the peace plan, aligning itself with the Arab and Islamic group and the State of Palestine.

The smbassador stressed that Pakistan’s position remains “clear and consistent”: the occupation must end, Palestinians must exercise their right to self-determination, and an independent Palestinian state must be established.

He also voiced deep concern over ongoing ceasefire violations, intensifying settler violence in the West Bank, and the continued displacement of Palestinian communities.

Citing the International Court of Justice’s 2024 Advisory Opinion, he noted that Israel is obligated to cease settlement activity, remove settlers, and repeal measures sustaining the unlawful situation.

Ambassador Ahmad outlined several priorities, including full implementation of Resolution 2803, withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, unimpeded humanitarian access, immediate reconstruction, an end to settlement expansion, prevention of forced displacement, and ensuring accountability for violations.

He reiterated that Gaza’s territorial integrity and connection with the West Bank are indispensable to a viable Palestinian state.

Pakistan also welcomed steps proposed in the General Assembly resolution to empower the co-Chairs of the New York Conference to follow up on commitments and reconvene discussions when necessary.

Concluding his address, the ambassador stressed that the world must now turn commitments into concrete action. Pakistan, he said, stands firmly with the Palestinian people in their struggle for dignity, justice, and statehood.
