Islamabad, New York police to discuss cooperation

Interior minister in meeting with US ambassador stresses US support in strengthening Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies.

ISLAMABAD: In order to promote collaboration, a team of Islamabad police will visit New York and hold meetings with their counterpart in the US city.

The visit is aimed at exploring opportunities for cooperation including training programs. This decision was made at a meeting of US Ambassador Donald Bloom with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday.

The minister recalled his discussions in New York to enhance collaboration between the police of Islamabad and the New York Police Department.

Issues including cooperation in combating terrorism, narcotics trafficking and bolstering security were also discussed by the ambassador and the minister.

They agreed to hold a joint law enforcement dialogue in October this year. The interior minister stressed the importance of US support in strengthening Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that Pakistan was committed to ensuring all rights and protection to minorities in the country.
