College sets up counselling center after student’s suicide

PESHAWAR: Following the suicide of a law student at Islamia College a few days ago, the institution has moved to address the mental and emotional health issues of its students.

The college administration has announced the establishment of a dedicated counseling center, with the Department of Psychology tasked with supporting students in managing stress and other psychological challenges.

In a bid to further support the well-being of students, the administration has also stated that religious scholars will provide spiritual guidance during Friday prayers at the college. These sermons are intended to foster moral and spiritual growth among the students.

Minister of Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi has underscored the need for a balanced approach to student development, stressing that both academic and extracurricular activities play a crucial role. “In addition to our focus on education, we are placing equal emphasis on extracurricular activities,” Afridi said.

“Just as Islamia College has taken steps to create a nurturing environment, we are committed to ensuring that all universities provide a supportive academic and social atmosphere, enabling students to thrive both academically and personally.
