ISLAMABAD: The 40-vessel Samud Gaza flotilla, carrying over 450 humanitarian workers from 44 countries, was recently targeted by Israeli forces, an act that has drawn strong condemnation from Pakistan.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif described the assault as dastardly and barbaric, highlighting that the humanitarian workers’ only “crime” was to deliver vital aid to the vulnerable Palestinian population.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister called for the immediate release of all humanitarian workers who were illegally apprehended by Israeli authorities.
He further emphasized that such acts of violence must end immediately, insisting that peace must be given a genuine chance and that humanitarian assistance must reach those in urgent need without hindrance.
Earlier, Pakistan had also welcomed the consultations conducted by US President Donald Trump with Arab leaders and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations General Assembly, describing them as a notable and constructive development.
Speaking at the UNGA, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed hope that these diplomatic initiatives could help address the most urgent humanitarian and political needs in the Middle East.
Ambassador Ahmad underscored the need for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, an end to hostilities, and the establishment of a credible political pathway toward Palestinian statehood, stressing that these efforts should be evaluated not by promises but by tangible results.
Together, the Prime Minister’s condemnation and Pakistan’s diplomatic statements at the UN reflect the country’s continued commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of the Palestinian people, calling for an end to occupation, indiscriminate killings, and the humanitarian suffering in Gaza, while advocating for the reunion of separated families and the reconstruction of devastated areas.
