Extremist Israeli minister wants synagogue on Al Aqsa Mosque compound

Itamar Ben-Gvir says if possible he could also hoist the flag of Israel on compound of Al Aqsa Mosque.

GAZA: Israeli extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has once again tried to add fuel to the fire by announcing his intension to build a Jewish worship place on the compound of Al Aqsa mosque in the occupied East Jerusalem.

The controversial minister in an interview to the Israeli military radio said that he would surely try to build the Jewish Jewish synagogue besides hoisting the flag of Israel in the compound of the mosque, the third holiest place for the Muslims.

It may be mentioned here that the compound of the holy mosque which the Israelis call the Temple Mount is also a sign of identity for the people of Palestine. The Israelis also consider it the first and second temple destroyed by the Romans in 70 BC.

The far-right leader and Israeli security minister has for long ignored the Israeli government’s  ban on Jews praying at the site inside the mosque.

Jews and other non-Muslims are allowed to visit the compound in occupied East Jerusalem during specified hours, but they cannot pray there or display religious symbols.

The Israeli minister’s statement has come at a time when Israeli forces are killing innocent people of Palestine and the Jewish state is not ready to stop the war.

Observers say that this provocative statement can derail the attempts being made by different countries such as the US, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to stop the Gaza war through negotiations with the Israeli government and Palestinian groups.
