JI chief advises CJP not to take extension

Govt should issue notification to appoint Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as the new chief justice of Pakistan to end judicial crisis.

ISLAMABAD: The chief of jamaat Islami has advised the chief justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa not to take extension upon his retirement related this year.

In a TV interview, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that if justice Qazi Faiz Isa announces that he would not take any extension, the current judicial and constitutional crisis would come to an end in the country.

The government should issue a notification to appoint Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior most judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as the new chief justice of Pakistan to end judicial crisis, he added.

The JI chief also advised political parties not to support the constitutional amendment that is aimed at prolonging the tenure of the current Chief Justice of Pakistan. 

He also said that the opposition parties including the PTI and JUI should not get involved in drafting proposals for amending the constitution.

The government has been trying to bring constitutional amendments but has not been able to get supports of at least two third majority in the Parliament.
