LAHORE: Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has stated that the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defense agreement marks a significant step toward fostering unity among Muslim countries and urged that other Islamic nations, particularly Iran, should also be included in this strategic pact.
Speaking at a meeting of the Central Shura in Lahore, Rehman highlighted that the United States stands firmly behind Israel, with its veto on the ceasefire serving as a clear example of this support.
He further noted that following the attacks on Qatar, Muslim countries have begun deliberating on ways to advance collective unity.
On domestic security concerns, he remarked that incidents such as those in the Tirah Valley heighten uncertainty and could undermine public confidence in institutions. He emphasized that targeted operations are an effective way to maintain security while preventing the unnecessary loss of innocent lives.
Regarding Afghanistan, Rehman called for the normalization of relations and urged that the Taliban issue be resolved through cooperation and peaceful dialogue, asserting that constructive negotiations would benefit both nations.
Answering a question on political reform, he stated that meaningful change in the country will only come with systemic reform.
He also announced that a public gathering, intended to serve as a foundation for this change, is scheduled to take place in November under the shadow of Minar-e-Pakistan.
