PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Friday appealed to the public, especially traders, to make the nationwide shutter-down strike on August 28 a success.
Addressing a news conference here, he warned the government against trying to divide the traders, saying the traders’ community should not fall into the government’s trap.
Mr Rehman said that if the government does not implement the agreement signed with him after the Rawalpindi Dharna, his party will march towards Islamabad from all over the country. This will be a historic long march. He announced that the party will start a mass mobilization campaign on September 1 and begin organizing across the country, focusing especially on youth and women.
the JI chief appreciated the Supreme Court’s decision on the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat issue, calling it good news for the nation.
He criticized the government’s failure to maintain law and order, saying even those responsible for protecting the public were not safe. He questioned how modern weapons were reaching dacoits who killed 12 policemen in Rahim Yar Khan.
He expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in tribal areas and Balochistan. He said that military operations will only worsen the situation and that the funds allocated for operations should be used for peace and providing basic rights to the people.
He emphasized the need for Pakistan and Afghanistan to engage in dialogue for peace. He said that the Taliban government should ensure that Afghan soil is not used for terrorism against Pakistan.
He reiterated Jamaat-e-Islami’s stance on electricity tariffs, taxes, and reduction of rulers’ privileges. He demanded a uniform and principled electricity tariff across the country, abolition of capacity charges for IPPs, and reduction of rulers’ privileges to save billions of rupees.
