ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed his willingness to play a mediating role amid the escalating tensions in Azad Kashmir, following an appeal from the Joint Action Committee.

He stated that efforts must be made to bring all parties to the negotiating table in the broader interest of peace and stability in the region.

Speaking on the matter, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the worsening situation in Kashmir has raised serious concerns among both the Kashmiri people and the citizens of Pakistan.

He noted that leaders of the Joint Public Action Committee, including Sardar Umar Aziz, Khawaja Mehran Advocate, and Shaukat Nawaz Mir, had formally approached him through a signed request seeking his intervention to help resolve the crisis.

He confirmed that he has accepted the request in principle and is prepared to assist in facilitating dialogue between the concerned parties. However, he emphasized that effective mediation would require time and space to establish contact with the government and initiate meaningful negotiations.

Referring to the ongoing protest activities, he said that committee members are currently staging a sit-in and planning their next course of action.

He urged them to reconsider escalating their protest and instead allow room for dialogue, particularly in view of the sensitive nature of the current period, including the first ten days of Muharram.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also appealed to both sides to adopt a more flexible and conciliatory approach, stressing that constructive engagement is essential to resolve the crisis.

He added that he hopes to create a conducive environment for talks between the government and the protest leadership, aiming to bring all stakeholders toward a peaceful settlement.
