CHARSADDA: Senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Abdul Salam, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Charsadda on Tuesday.
According to police, the incident took place within the limits of Mandani Police Station, on the Mandani–Takht Bhai Road near Hanif Petrol Pump. Unknown assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on Maulana Abdul Salam, killing him on the spot.
Police officials said the body was shifted to Civil Hospital Jamalabad for postmortem. They added that an investigation has been launched and different aspects of the incident are being examined.
Maulana Abdul Salam was the head (muhatamim) of Madrassa Abu Bakr Siddique located in Angar Bari Band, Tehsil Tangi, and was also a member of the JUI-F provincial Shura.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and started efforts to trace the attackers.
