ISLAMABAD: A recent United Nations report has revealed that the increase in terrorist attacks in Pakistan was a result of continuous financial and logistical support provided to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
The report submitted to the United Nations Security Council stated that the TTP’s presence and strength in Afghanistan remain intact, and the outlawed outfit carried out over 600 attacks in Pakistan in 2024, with the Afghan Taliban providing it with $43,000 per month.
The report also disclosed that new training centers for the TTP had been established in Afghanistan’s Kunar, Nangarhar, Khost, and Paktika provinces. It was also revealed that the Balochistan Liberation Army’s Majid Brigade had formed an alliance with ISIS and the Eastern Turkestan Islamic Movement, receiving support from Afghanistan.
Pakistan has been continually urging the Afghan government to prevent the TTP from using their territory against Pakistan; however, TTP terrorists continue to carry out attacks in Pakistan from the Afghan border, and evidence of Afghan nationals’ involvement in terrorism in Pakistan has also been presented to the Afghan government.
