KARACHI: A sessions court in Karachi has sought arguments on jurisdiction and legal limits in a petition seeking the registration of a criminal case against former U.S. President Donald Trump over alleged violations of international law and the Geneva Conventions related to an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The petition was filed in the District and Sessions Court at Karachi City Court by lawyer Jamshed Ali Khawaja. It names Additional IG Karachi, SSP South, and the SHO of Docks Police Station as respondents. Trump is named as the accused.
According to the petitioner, Trump’s actions, including the attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, violated international law and the Geneva Conventions, endangered global peace, and caused physical, mental, and financial harm to millions of Muslims and thousands of lawyers.
The petitioner told the court he had submitted complaints to senior Karachi police officers, but no FIR (First Information Report) was registered nor was any statement recorded. He urged the court to direct police under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code to record his statement and register a case.
The District and Sessions Court transferred the matter to an Additional Sessions Court, which has now sought detailed legal arguments on its jurisdiction and powers to entertain such a plea. The petitioner’s lawyer has been directed to present arguments at the next hearing.
The court adjourned further proceedings until a fortnight.
