PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution urging the federal government to allow critically injured Afghan citizens affected by the recent earthquake to enter Pakistan without visas for immediate medical treatment.
The resolution was supported by both the government and opposition, emphasizing that providing assistance to the Afghan people in their time of need is not only a humanitarian gesture but also a religious and moral obligation.
Lawmakers highlighted the urgency of the situation following a powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Afghanistan’s Kunar province, killing at least 800 people and injuring more than 2,800. Many victims are reportedly still trapped under debris, and local medical facilities are overwhelmed.
The resolution specifically recommended that severely injured individuals be transported across the border into Pakistan without visa restrictions and be given access to emergency healthcare services.
In addition, the Assembly called for coordinated efforts between provincial and federal governments to dispatch relief teams, medical supplies, and rescue equipment to Afghanistan as part of a cross-border humanitarian response.
Lawmakers also reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to supporting its Afghan neighbors in times of crisis, urging swift and compassionate action to save lives.
