BRUSSELS: Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi visited the central secretariat of the Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) in Brussels, where he lauded Chairman Ali Raza Syed and his team for their steadfast efforts in raising awareness about the Kashmir issue across Europe.
During the visit, Governor Kundi presented appreciation shields to Chairman Ali Raza Syed and senior Kashmiri leader Sardar Saddique Ahmed Khan, recognizing their pivotal roles in highlighting the plight of Kashmiris at high-level European institutions and through extensive continent-wide campaigns.
Senior journalist and Voice of America’s Pakistan representative Ali Furqan, along with veteran journalist Mohsin Raza Khan, were also present. The event featured the opening ceremony of Ali Farhan’s book, “9 May to 8 February”, a copy of which was gifted to the Governor.
As part of his visit, Governor Kundi met former Belgian Prime Minister and current Member of the European Parliament, Elio Di Rupo, in Mons. The discussions centered on the Kashmir conflict, India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and the recent catastrophic floods in Pakistan caused by cloudbursts and climate change.
Elio Di Rupo pledged full cooperation on climate-related challenges, promised to mobilize aid for flood-affected areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and committed to raising the issue of the Indus Waters Treaty within the European Parliament.
Governor Kundi stressed that without a sustainable resolution to the Kashmir dispute, peace and prosperity in South Asia would remain out of reach. He also apprised the former Belgian Prime Minister of ongoing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and detailed Pakistan’s struggles with the adverse effects of climate change.
The Governor’s itinerary in Belgium included a dinner hosted in his honor by Pakistan Peoples Party Belgium leader Malik Ajmal in Antwerp, and a ceremony in Ghent where the impact of recent floods in Pakistan was discussed in depth.
